What would make a good research paper?

I have to write a paper for my World Cultures class. It can be about anything, as long as it fits between the time period of 1517 to 1919. Any ideas?

What would make a good research paper?
The American Revolution was the first time a people put themselves above any ruler. It started the French revolution and the end of European monarchies. It changed both the political and social fabric of the Western world.

Reply:Well this has nothing to do with World Cultures, but writing about the symbolism of the Rose in the title "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner is excellent. I did this for my Literature class, and everyone loved it.
