Does any one know the correct way to do a research paper?

I have just recently returned to school after 12 years and I can't remember exactly how to get started on this project. I have already got research done. I just don't remember the format or exactly how to get it started.

Does any one know the correct way to do a research paper?
the best way in my opinion is....





1. start off with your resources, and put each one on an index card, label to top left with 1, 2, 3 etc for each source


2. then for each source find facts and information relevant to your thesis and write each one on a separate index card. for each fact/info you find for each source label it 1-A, 1-B or 2-A, 2-B etc depending on which source you got it from


3. you begin to organize all your cards together to make your paper


4. write it up
