I need a good topic to write a 2500 word research paper on for a college writing class.?

I have to have at least 7 references for the paper.


I am not looking for a topic that is stereotypical or on a controversial subject. (such as: Abortion, Death Penalty, Homosexuality...)


I want one that will have lots of information available on it but not so broad of a topic that it will be too difficult to write about.





Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated : )





*Oh, and I have to have a thesis that I am able to support with evidence and in the end convince the reader of my ideas or thoughts.

Well, I find the best topics ARE controversial because that gives you more to write about. If you don't want to write about something stereotypical maybe you could write about something more specific than just homosexuality like the gender binary, the best methods of the death penalty.


For non controversial ideas maybe "the health risks of ______" on something most people wouldnt know is bad for you. For instance I just read an article on the health risks of make up.

Virtually all topics will yield an interesting thesis if you are creative enough. Moreover, 2500 words is not really that much. As long as your topic isn't extremely narrow or hard to find information on, it shouldn't be a problem to reach that limit. The thing I would be more concerned about is the references. Depending on how you structure your paper, it may be difficult or relatively easy to get seven.








I suggest that you either:





1. Compare and contrast two ideas. Write about the pros and cons of each side, and explain what your position is on the topic, given these opposing views. This is easiest, in my opinion. Four references for one side, three for the other, for example.





or:





2. Write purely on one topic. This means you'll devote most of the paper to one idea, considering the other side's arguments but not in much depth. This is probably more difficult, because you need more data/references for the side you have chosen. Still, if the topic has a lot of stuff you can write about (or a lot of technical terms that need to be defined), it may be useful.








Here's some topic suggestions.





Art. Selected works from a particular artist. Could be a well-known artist or a lesser-known one. Or, compare two artists. Why is one better than the other?





Music. Comparing one genre to another, or one time period to another. Or, two musicians. Why is one better than the other?





Astronomy. The demotion of Pluto to a 'dwarf planet', perhaps. Should it have been demoted? Why or why not?








I don't know if any of these topics sound good to you. One way to figure out what to write about is to think about things that you already know about, then think of the most interesting aspects of those things. Since you have a number of references to get, you should check to see that there is ample research already out there before you commit to a topic.

Reply:Find some information about the involvement of the Sudanese government in the Darfur region. There is a lot of information available about the Arabs running the govt in Sudan and how they have aided the groups that are killing innocent Darfur people. Your library should have access to many of the types of documents you will want to search for this information
