I have to write a research paper on something that has to do with my future career as a teacher. Any ideas?

Something that I can do primary research on (like surverys, questionaires, etc.). An example is "Are students motivated when asked to write?"

Preferably, something related to literacy. Any ideas?

I am not trying to be critical, but the phrasing of the second part of your question is kind of fuzzy.

However, if you are in a college level class, and the research needs to be related to literacy, here are some considerations:

Keep one thing in mind regarding the role of a literacy teacher within his community and society: you have the kinetic energy to change life for the next generation.

For this reason, perhaps you should examine the connection between literacy and history; or literacy and sociology; or literacy and government. Or you may want to consider taking a brief look at how our nation's evolving literacy influenced all three.

This overview will help you see how we got to where we are, why we were where we were, and where we may be going, if literacy is given the proper role it deserves in our culture.

And perhaps you will be able, as a result of the new insight you glean from this research to turn our youth back to the books, and away from the digital flood that is robbing them of so much enrichment.
Reply:Try writing about No Child Left Behind and the impact it has and will continue to have. Somthing like "Has NCLB really worked?"
Reply:Write about the recent decision of some primary schools to teach boys and girls separately due to their learning methods being so different. Present the pros and cons of it. Pro being the attempt to bring each gender into level playing fields that each does not excel at as a rule. (boys- english, writing girs-math, science) Explore the social implications and impact of teaching in this way. State why you feel it should be done a certain way and how that will play a role in your place as an educator.
