Any great info about going into the US Coast Guard For Research Paper?
gocoastguard.com is the "recruting" site

but to find better information on history, news and missions go to www.uscg.mil that is the official site. search the career paths (a lot more than people think) and look on the front page for recent news on rescues....and how the navy uses our footage in there recruiting films??

How does it take from you TO READ and REVIEW a research PAPER?

a paper of 15-20 pages in avarege... How much time do you need to read it and apprehend it and review it.. or summarize it?

How does it take from you TO READ and REVIEW a research PAPER?
well, it totally depends on the person, but i'd say anywhere from 1-6 hours. I actually JUST finished reading a research paper that was 12 pages long and it probably took me about 1.5 hours to read. However, if I needed to summarize it and really comprehend everythign that I just read, I'd definitely have to read it again....if I did have to do this, I would write notes on a separate piece of paper (the margin could work too, but I would prefer a separate piece of paper...it would work better for me), writing down the main points of the article. Then, I would read all of the main points I wrote down, and only THEN begin to write my summary. This could be quite a lengthy process.
Reply:It depends on how fast you read and how familiar you are with the subject. I did an experiment my senior year and had to write up a summary of previous research on the top prior to executing my experiment. I'd say it took me on average 2 hours to read each article and highlight/write notes on the important parts. If I were writing a formal summary on it, it probably would've taken me about 3 hours per article.

Historical Figure Research Paper?

I have to do a research paper on a historical figure, and I have no idea on what person to write about. Got any ideas?

Historical Figure Research Paper?
Pick a woman that did something. Sally Ride, the first female astronaut, Catherine the Great of Russia, Hasheput.
Reply:Isn't there someone you've read about who interested you? It'll be easier if you write about someone you admire than just randomly picking someone.

For instance, I always admired strong women who lived during times when women were oppressed. I did a paper on Harriet Tubman, a black woman who saved 300 slaves by sneaking them from the South to the North in the Undersround Raiload. There's was a lot written about her so it was a fairly easy paper to write. Good luck
Reply:Yes, do one on Nikola Tesla, arguably the greatest mind to ever exist in this country and the individual who developed Alternating Current Electrical sources for our access to electricity.

His patents and develops are astounding.
Reply:My favorite historical figure was Teddy Roosevelt. He did a large number of good things. Such as starting the national parks and other forms of conservation. He was also a war hero and a well liked person.
Reply:Valentina Tereshkova - the first woman in space

Reply:Here's an interesting one - Charlie Chaplin. People today know who he is, but they don't know a lot about him. I discovered him a couple of years ago and he has one of the most interesting lives/careers of anyone in history. Plus watching some of his films will put a smile on your face. He was born in 1889 in London, England. He died 1977 in Switzerland on Christmas day. Even though he's not American, he did live and work in Hollywood for nearly 40 years. During the early 20th century he was the most famous man in the world - and his films are truly funny, not stupid slapstick like most people think. I know his life story, so if you want any help, I'll be happy to give it. Email me if you want: trylikeafool@gmail.com.

What you have sounds good. I'm not an English major, so I'm afraid I'm not very good with outlines, but I was wondering if your restrictions include quarantines in the last centuries. I'm talking about places like Ellis Island in the US and Grosse Ile in Canada.

That might be interesting to talk about.

Hope that helps!

How can you find a book to write your senior research paper, if you don't find any in your campus library?

I had to write a paper for my graduation of law school in Ethiopia. But you know how much there is a problem in finding proper books in Africa. I have searched the whole library in my campus, but there are only two books that could help me. And the books that are in the catalogue are not on the shelfs, you know may be they are lost or stolen.

What would you do if you were me? I can get a good enternet access may be once in a week. Can you tell me how or where i can get them on the enternet or anywhere else?

How can you find a book to write your senior research paper, if you don't find any in your campus library?
You can go to Borders, Barns and Noble, amazon.com and powells.com.
Reply:I would definitely check out your online resources and gather a list of the books you will need.

Then I would check out such sites as barnes and noble, borders, amazon, eBay and half.com.

You might also be able to ask the librarian at your campus library if they do a sharing program (such as if your library can ask another campus library if they have the book you need and then that library sends it over to your library so you can use it).

Good luck on your paper! And I hope you do great!

How did slaves go about going to churches if their "master" didn't want them to? I'm doing a research paper :)

I'm doing a research paper, so even a good website address would help!

How did slaves go about going to churches if their "master" didn't want them to? I'm doing a research paper :)
I don't know any good ones specifically but Wikkipedia would be good. Some slaves were allowed to go to church long as there was a sheriff outside the window, making sure the pastor didn't talk abuot freedom or something. Hope this helps! Good luck on your paper.
Reply:That's a complicated question. In South, many times, masters would allow slaves to go with them to church. The sermons in those white churches often focused on the master/slave relationship and how it was the slave's religious duty to follow and obey their masters.

Of course, after these services many slaves attended their own churches. Some slaves bargained their way to free time on Sundays for services or masters saw the services as an appeasement technique. Of course, if the message of the sermon was too radical and got back to the master there would be trouble. So the slave churches often hid their messages in song and what seemed like children's stories.

Whether these services were held varied from master to master from plantation to plantation.

Some books that may help you are Roll Jordan Roll (just get it from a library and skim to find what you need it long), The Strange Career of Jim Crow, Slave Narrative like the Slave Narrative of frederick Douglass may also hold some clues for you, Slave Missions and the Black Churches in the Antebellum South by Janet Duitsman Cornelius is also a good read on the subject. Below are some links to check out they may help you with your project. Best of Luck!

Is it safe to use a wrting service for a research paper?

If so which ones are any good and which sites would guarantee that the paper is free of plagerism. Also has any one tryed the writing service and had success with it?

Is it safe to use a wrting service for a research paper?
That depends upon several things. What are you using the service for? If you right the paper and hire them to type it, that is one thing. Depending upon what your instructor will allow, you might even be able to hire the service to edit for grammar, punctuation and spelling as long as the content of the paper is not altered.

Other than that I do not know. I know of several people who have typed papers for students. But there was nothing typed that was not provided by the student.

How to format page numbers for research paper according to MLA format?

I use Microsoft Word 2003 and want to format my paper so that page number 3 actually gets tagged as page number 1. help me!

How to format page numbers for research paper according to MLA format?
I think if you make a section break, just prior to your page three, you can set it up so when you insert your page numbers you can get it to start with page 1 on page three. Just make sure you that if there is a check box for the formating to be the same as the previous section that it is not checked as you want different formatting.

I hope that helps. I have a newer version and am having to do this from memory.

find the stats and figures of the percentage of AA hires who ranked lower in skills and qualifications than other people who applied for the job, then apply those figures to the balance of discrimination, preferred hiring, and 'the best person for the job' "theory"
Reply:The term Affirmative Action was first introduced by JFK about 46 years ago when he was president. In your paper make sure to detail the Bakke v University of California and Brown v Board of education these were two extremely significant supreme court decisions. Quotas, keeping a set number of slots for minorities, are also important. Actually they are no longer allowed in the college admission process after the Bakke case, however they are still used in some work places. Back up your points with examples too. Good luck.

Reply:Have you seen movie? It may help. Library or Bklock Buster should have it. ITS a classic of how times have changed. It is seen mosty through the little girls eyes as she observes her father with different people and on his small town lawyer job. I dont remember why she doesnt have a Mom but she has a housekeeper black lady with girl her age. She observes her Dad being kind to people that need his service and can only pay with garden goods. She learns valuable lessons watching him, and does not realize it. Her Dad realizes it when she befriends the adult retarded man who is kept hidden next door. He actually had been watching and protecting her from a mean drunk man following her in woods home from a halloween party, who was after revenge on her Dad. But she does not know that. Then he gets a big court case that brings out whole town defending a simple black man who was acused of rape. He prooves his innacent, the town people are amazed and some disbelieve a black could not be guilty. his daighter is up stairs in the black section, she had sneaked in when told to stay home, This is in days white and blacks sat different areas in court and I believe it was a all male jury. Another scene is about a gun. A rabid dog comes up street, he gets his gun and puts it down, she is shocked as he has always told her guns are very bad and I dont think she even knew they had a gun. Ive read book and seen movie several times. Ive wondered why they never did a part 2 after she grew up. *mamatx

In a high school research paper, should the thesis statement be the last sentence in the introduction?

This is for a history paper at school. Some people say that it does not have to be the last sentence and that you can present the content of your paper following the thesis. However, at school we were taught that the thesis statement is the last 1 or 2 sentences in the introduction.

In a high school research paper, should the thesis statement be the last sentence in the introduction?
Having it at the end makes the most logical sense. You don't want to jump right in and say it in the first sentence, and it has to be in the introduction. It states the main idea and leads into the next part of the paper, so it should probably go at the end.
Reply:That's the way I remember the guidelines in high school.
Reply:Technically, no. It does not HAVE to be the last sentence of your introduction. The NORMAL (yet not concrete) formula is usually as follows:

Story/quote --%26gt; connector --%26gt;Thesis --%26gt;First paragraph

It's only logical and sensable to have it at the end.
Reply:i belive it should be somewere in the middle not at first so you can explain yor topic and not the end so you can explain your hook im sorry if that did not make sense im so tired

What is a good way to start a research paper on baby koalas?
Baby koalas are solitary tree-dwellers, living placidly amongst dozens upon dozens of awaiting trees, if you were to look up at one of these beautiful creatures, you would see a resemblance to a human baby.

Their eyes always seem to have a happy glow that lights up the treetops when the moon is covered, their hands gripping their parents fearfully.

There are many reasons to look up to baby koalas, for we could only hope to catch a glimpse of such peacefulness in our own lives.

Can any one give me tips to publish a research paper on national conferences?

i am doing master of engineering in computer science and engineering,i would like to present a paper on graph mining.

i collected lot of reference papers from ieee and acm .i want to know how to extend the concepts .

Can any one give me tips to publish a research paper on national conferences?
From your collection of papers on the topic i.e graph mining, write a review of main ideas, trace the development of the concept and connect the papers together, and find gaps i.e what needs to be explored further.. Once you have finished with that, look for conferences which call for papers in your field of study. This can be googled.. The conference organizers may call for submissions of papers or abstracts to be reviewed. If your paper is accepted, you'll get notification from the organizers inviting you to present your paper at the conference. Presented papers will normally be published in the conference proceedings.

first talk about your topic and why your doing it

then talk about whwat global warming is

then talk about how it's affecting us

(what physical changes are appearant)

talk about how WE'RE the ones causing global warming

talk about how were causing global warming (using products that have clouroflorocarbons or CFC such as refrigerator packing.. aerosal sprays etc)

talk about how we use these items daily and it is hard to let go of them

maybe you could find some info on which age group of humans use them the most :)

talk about why we should stop using them

talk about the future and what will happen if we continue at the rate we're going

talk about the ozone layer and the hole

talk about making changes today and starting by itsy bitsy steps such as changing what we use

talk about how this will help out the future

interesting fact: psyhics predict that in 100 years, we will be living in domes and we can't go outside if we continue at the rate right now

and etc! good luck!! is this doublespaced? i hope it is!

Can someone help with my research paper?

My paper is on "Reforming America's Educational System". The only thing I need help with is getting started (the introduction and the second paragraph). Once I start then everything would be okay! I already have about ten sources to use in my eight to ten page paper. So please someone help me out. Thank You!

Can someone help with my research paper?
Try ignoring the introduction and conclusion of your paper. Just write the body for now.

Write a list of ideas you would like to talk about that will use your sources. Once you have the list pretend that they are test questions. Tell yourself you have a half hour or one hour to answer each question essay style using only your sources as help. Do not go over the time limit. Just quit and go on.

Prior to taking the 'test' label each reference 1, 2, 3, etc... When you use a reference during the test write them as 1, 2, 3, etc... Write away and answer your best before time is up! Take breaks in between if you need to.

When you are done answering them add to them if you need to. Then print them out separately or if you hand wrote make sure each one is separate. Look for a flowing pattern between the essays and make modifications to connect the essays into one.

From here you ask yourself how many pages do I have? If not enough make some more questions. When you are done connecting the essays write the intro and conclusion.

Tada! Essay done. It works for me. I averaged eleven pages with five questions. About two pages per question. I call it the I am lazy and can't think way to success.

I'm assuming 3rd person-because its a research paper. You can form your introduction by listing topics to be covered in the paper...1st sentence-Introduce the paper...use the title. 2nd sentence introduce thee second paragraph....3rd,4th paragraph...structure the paragraph to flow the info. towards the 2nd para.

2nd paragraph...decide what info is most useful to know- facts, figures...ask the question Who,introduce these reformers, ask why- explain-

hope this helps
Reply:what they said. everyone has their own way to write a paper..and obviousky my way is not going to work for you, its too complicated. only i understand it. but go with what you can do. start somewhere..dont hesitate. just do something. no one is gonna do it for you baby.
Reply:Well..."Reforming America's Education System" is a BROAD topic. There are THOUSANDS of ways that you can go with this topic, and if you are going to be using specific sources, your souces are the PROOF on what you want to say. What do you want to say in your paper?? What have you gleaned from those ten sources??? I can't really help you out, since I have no idea where you are going with this broad topic, to make it narrow, and what sources you are using. You need to first take notes and then decide on what you want to write about. Seriously.

Research paper on Grade Inflation. Having a hard time narrowing down the topic to one small question-any ideas

Writing a paper on grade inflation. I cannot narrow it down to one small question to investigate. I am also having a hard time with sources, so the question needs to be one that will be easy to find search results for. Any ideas??? It only has to be 6 to 7 pages.

Hi, Your teacher is a very clever person, his question covers a broad spectrum which can be covered several ways. This will have to be your selection. Try the web site Grade inflation.com this will help to decide the way to start. It's really not that hard. Put your brain in third and go for it.

I need to critique a research paper?

I have never critiqued a paper and am having a hard time doing so. I have spent several hours w/my Professor, but I just don't get it. She has put an outline of some sort for us to follow but it makes no sense, it's as if she want's the research article all over again help please!

I need to critique a research paper?
there are many things u could write about, try to think about what these guys may have donw wrong in the research, or what u think are some good parts of it. a research usually has 5 main parts, theory, design, implementation, analysis and discussion. Do u think the subject was well investigated before the research started? do u think there are enough references in it? do u think it is based on reliable elements? do u think the researh design is good to address the issue in question? do u think this design or research method actually answers the question or hypothesis? do u think the method is reliable enough? are there other possible methods u could use to make this research? what other methods do u think would be more suitable? why? what about the sample method? were there enough "subjects" for the research? see this in relation to the purpose of the research, if the method is good enough to address the purpose. for example a research that aims to generalise should have a very big sample, if a research aims to analyse a kind of new field then perhaps a method that goes deeper into things and does not have a very big sample may be better. are there any errors in its implementation? are there any errors in tis analysis? is there another way to analyse the data u have collected? which way do u think is better for the purpose of the research? does it offer something finally? something new in the field? how can its findings be implemented?

these are only a few questions that come in my mind, i hope they make u understand better the outline your teacher gave u. however in order to critique a research u should know some basics abour research methods, so i guess u can not avoid reading your book first, it will make u see things clearer then :)

good luck!

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

The purpose for writing a critique is to evaluate somebody's work (a book, an essay, a movie, a painting...) in order to increase the reader's understanding of it. A critical analysis is subjective writing because it expresses the writer's opinion or evaluation of a text. Analysis means to break down and study the parts. Writing a critical paper requires two steps: critical reading and critical writing.

Global warming and natural disasters research paper?

I'm doing a research project on how global warming is affecting natural disasters. So far, I've covered the history of global warming, consequences of global warming and I've presented statistics on the effects that global warming is having natural disasters.

I dont feel like the paper is complete yet though.

Are there any points that you think would be beneficial?

I would really appreciate any and all help.

Thanks.

How do I go about submitting a research paper to a scientific journal?
Any handy professors nearby that you can ask? Especially if you can find one in your area, they'd probably be able to identify some of the better targets if you tell them what it's about.

Look for relevant publications to the work you wrote up, either in the library or online. They all should have a section in every issue about submitting articles.

Beware, this can be a very frustrating process.

Who should I write about for my research paper?

I have to write a paper about a 20th century writer (1900-1985). Who would be interesting to write about?

Who should I write about for my research paper?
I would look at some of the best selling authors of that time...you'll probably find the most material on a best selling author.

I would reccomend Mark Twain but he might be before that time period. He was a very funny smart political man and i bet he would be great to do a paper on.

Shel Silverstein might be a good one too, he wrote all those books of poems and the giving tree and just from reading his stuff i bet he has an intersting story.

Tony Morrison is always a good choice, she has written so many amazing things and lead a very intersting life.
Reply:One interesting person might be Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of Scott Fitzgerald (the guy who wrote the Great Gatbsy). She was a writer and a poet, but alchoholism and mental illness had a devastating effect on her career. Also, her husband was not supportive of her writing and often tried to take her ideas. She was a very interesting figure.

Another interesting person would be W. Somerset Maugham. He was an incredibly popular writer in the eary nineteen twenties and thirties (he wrote Of Human Bondage). He served as a spy during World War I and he holds the record for the most books being adapted to movies (a new one is coming out staring Edward Norton and Naomi Watts in The Painted Veil). He is not very well remembered today, but there is a lot of info on him and he was a very interesting guy.
Reply:Tolkien is a great choice too. You can find a lot about him on Internet and you can add interesting things about him and his work. You can find his letters and get to know a lot about his own words about his books, and his toughs of Luise Carol and Mark Twain.

Do I get docked points if my research paper is too long?

I bite a huge topic and my paper is about 800 words past the maximum. Can I get docked points for that?

Do I get docked points if my research paper is too long?
Yes you can because you did not follow directions. While unlikely, I've heard some teachers say that they would throw out papers that were over the limit, and others who said they would stop reading at whatever the limit is and only grade above that. For most professors, they don't care too much if you go over (especially when it's with word limits and you are handing in a hard copy and not emailing it in), however, 800 words is a lot over and the very least there would be a note about.

Look through your paper and find any flowery words. Get out your red pen and have a few friends get theirs' out and start taking out any phrases that aren't needed or parts that are redundant.

You should get it down to no more then 1 or 2 pages more then what the word count is if it's double spaced. If you have time, ask your prof what you can get away with if you can't seem to get it down anymore.
Reply:Really it depends on your teacher, but I'll give you my old teacher for example...

"There are 30 kids in your class, and 30 kids in the other class, both of which are doing research papers up to 7 pages long. If a bunch of you go over that limit then I'll have more pages to read, more time token up, and a longer time til you get you're back. So DON'T make your paper longer than 7 pages."

She hated when kids went a page over but if it's only a bit past the maximum then don't worry about it. Just don't go to far past the maximum, 800 words doesn't sound too far.

Good luck!

Jane Marie
Reply:That would be something that you need to discuss with your particular professor. Some professors are very exact in how they want things done %26amp; will dock. Some professors, however, are more lax. Discuss this with your professor. Explain that if you take out 800 words then your work won't be presented properly. You may also want to have someone proofread it, etc., and tell you if there are some things that can be removed.
Reply:Is there a min. and max. length for your paper? I have been docked points in the past for writing TOO long papers but, I've been docked more points for writing TOO short papers. Is all the information in your paper necessary and completely relevant? Maybe you should just look back and see if you could stand to lose a paragraph without causing your paper to not make sense. LOL Im Sarah B too!!!

How would I start a research paper with the topic being about welfare? Any good thesis statements??

I have a research rough draft due by monday and don't know how to start my paper?!! it's on welfare. if anyone has any REAL answers to my ? please let me know. thanks

How would I start a research paper with the topic being about welfare? Any good thesis statements??
How about "Is the Welfare System really helping people or are they just expecting a hand out?" You could write about whether welfare is "a hand up or a hand out?"
Reply:all i can tell you is that it's best if you always start your thesis statement with "although".
Reply:What are you trying to say about welfare? The thesis statement would partly depend on that. If you are trying to say it is a necessary thing, you would word your thesis to that effect. If you are trying to say that it is NOT necessary, and is a drain on our national budget, as are those who receive it, you would word your thesis another way.
Reply:Yes. Start by finding out the different types of welfare - WIC, TANF, SSI, etc. and then list them, define them, say who is eligible for each type, and what the issues are. Then apply the rules to the issues, and come up with your conclusion. Welfare varies from state to state, and state to federal.

Steinbeck Research Paper - Need help making a conclusion?

I'm writing a research paper of John Steinbeck and three of his works that are: The Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men, and The Pearl.

My hypothesis is "Steinbeck’s writing style makes character’s that show their place with their surroundings and makes them go through life with the many struggles of the human experience."

How can i conclude all of this at the end?

Thanks

Steinbeck Research Paper - Need help making a conclusion?
All you have to do with your conclusion is to say the same thing as your introduction but in a different way.
Reply:Restate your thesis, and summarize some important points you found that supports it.
Reply:Mice and Men is the greatest novel ever written about mercy killing, and friendship. The most powerful thing about the book is, that Steinbeck said about the human condition and struggle in 98 pages what it took and still takes most authors 325 pages to say. The book celebrates one of the oldest questions in the world: "what is a friend and what is character".

The Grapes of Wrath is sculpted from the Dust Bowl of the Okholoma 1930's. It takes the Jode family and tells just "how" horrible things were for ordinary "working people" just trying to get west to work(namely pick grapes).

Steinbeck has special meaning for me. He was one of the Original Patrons of the Writing Workshop in which I trained.

Reply:I'm sure many of them are older photos. Some may have been leaked from which ever police organization took them.

I found several articles online, mostly related to the Dale Earnhardt crash and subsequent autopsy photos. It seems that the law varies from state to state. Some states have said that if you are not related to the case in question (such as a family member or attorney), you need a judge's approval to obtain photos.

Before all of this, autopsy photos were considered public domain. I assume that you had to pay a fee for the photos like any other document. After the Earnhardt crash, his widow fought and won a case to prevent a newpaper organization from collecting the photos related to his death. Many states now treat autopsy photos as part of medical history and thus is protected as confidential information.

I don't know which states have enacted these types of laws and which have not. But I would certainly be upset if I found the autopsy photos of a loved one on a website.

How should I write an argumentative research paper?

i've picked the topic of leadership, more specifically the issue that the definition of a leader changes as we change. I think I know what I want to say I just don't know where to start or how to frame my paper....help! (11th grade AP english class)

How should I write an argumentative research paper?
What are you debating? Uhm, I don't really think that is a GOOD topic but I'll try to help you out.

Alright, since I THINK you're debating on the definition of a leader you should research what a leader was in the 1800s-1900s to a leader in 2000s. I don't know how long your research paper should be but I am guessing four to five pages double spaced with Times New Roman in 12 pixels/font. Okay, below is a possible outline of your research paper. Each ROMAN NUMERAL is a NEW PARAGRAPH!

I. What is a leader?

A. Definition of a leader

B. Etymology.

C. What does children think of leaders?

D. Include any facts on leaders in OLD history and think of leaders NOW. Keep it brief. Don't go into this. The introductory paragraph in an argumentative research paper should balance the two sides.[if that made sense]

II. Leaders in OLD times

A. What were leaders in OLD times considered?

B. Include 3-4 nations' history of leaders. [this should be in SEPERATE paragraphs and about 250-400 words each.

C. Include United States history of leaders. What did they do?

III. Leaders in PRESENT times

A. Who are considered leaders in the world today?

B. Include 3-4 nation's leaders [this should be in SEPERATE paragraphs and about 250-400 words each. Include like a mini biography with 150 words of each leader]

C. Include United States leaders now. [this should be about 250-400 words each paragraph if there is more than one leader. Check out answers.com to see what PEOPLE think of leaders.

IV. Argumentative Paragraph

A. This should be your ARGUMENTATIVE paragraph. Make your reader want to know the similarities and differences of each type of lader. Include what people in answers.com think.

V. Conclusion

I hope I helped you in your question, "How should I write an argumentative research paper?"

If youhave not already summarized your findings, do what you did in your question. Restate your main points in a "so you see" fashion. Perhaps explain who would need this information, how this information would be helpful and important. Or suggest there needs to be more research done on this topic, for example.
Reply:A good ending? Why not talk about treatment? Perhaps mention positive or negative statistics. Maybe finish writing this paper, then go out and eat a whole cake by yourself to make yourself feel better.

What is a research paper? And why is it so important?

I'm a non-native speaker from Asia, I'm writing an essay concerning research paper.

I've totally no idea what a research paper is . I'm very confused.

Can anybody be nice enough to tell me something about this?

Thanks.

What is a research paper? And why is it so important?
The key word is *research* -- it helps you learn how to find information, organize it, and explain it in your own words so that you and others can understand it or gain a new/unfound appreciation of it. It's all about improving your thinking, organizational, and writing skills. At the same time, you get to learn more about something because you have to research it.
Reply:you go on-line, use the encyclopedia or any other resources, find information on the topic and write a paper about it using the information you found...that is a research paper, be sure to give credit to the source you have used..I'm writing one now :)
Reply:it is important because it is used only when u go for a job. otherwise no use
Reply:A research paper is a write up of results from some research that someone has done. A lot of university student studying for their PhD will conduct some research in their field of knowledge. They will have an interest in something, develop a hypothesis and then research to write their thesis. The results are often used by companies or individuals for various reasons. I can't think of an example right now sorry. I hope you do well in your essay.

Any tips on writing an opening paragraph for a research paper?

I'm writing a paper on Japanese mythology, and I know idea where to start on writing an opening paragraph. Thanks in advance ^_^

Any tips on writing an opening paragraph for a research paper?
Your opening paragraphy should provide the reader a couple items. It should have a thesis statement of some kind - that is, it should tell the reader what proposition you are researching and answering - and it should tell the reader what evidences you will be examining to support the thesis.
Reply:This is what the dictionary says:

Japanese mythology is a system of beliefs that embraces Shinto and Buddhist traditions as well as agriculture-based folk religion. The Shinto pantheon alone consists of an uncountable number of kami (Japanese for "gods" or "spirits").

Just put into your own words.

I think a paper on when odd sentences are beneficial, when they are harmful, and in what conditions you just can't tell would be an interesting subject to research.

I want a topic for my research paper?
the Salton Sea was partly a result of successfully maintaining rights whilst neglecting maintenance. Individuals Gate/Buffet who successfully amass fortunes by maintain rights because of hte vastness of wealth they neglect maintenance and create a Salton sea of money, AFRICA non profit accounting
Reply:sure. how about the dificulties of non-profits to fit in all expences within government guidelines. See, to qualify as non profit, groops need to keep fixed spending, (administration, wages, etc), within a certain percentage. Some do it better than others.

What would be a good title for a research paper on Opera?

It's a five page paper and I can't think of any titles. It is about the history of opera, famous operas, and opera composers. Thanks.

What would be a good title for a research paper on Opera?
The History Of The Ópera

It is Opera in Spanish.
Reply:Sing until our ears bleed??? Yodeling with style?? Somebody slammed the cat in the door?
Reply:From One Note to Many: Opera

The Reign of Opera

When Music Says as Much as Language: Opera

Operatic Highs and Lows

Composing Musical Poetry: Opera

That's all I've got. Good luck with a title for your paper, and luck for a good grade--
Reply:Well, some somewhat humorous titles:

Opera: The History of The Phantom's Favorite Songs

(^Referring to the Phantom of the Opera)

Why the Fat Lady Sings

More serious ones:

The History of the Opera

The Great Production

Song and Story

Good luck, hope these help!

Too many citations in a research paper?

I'm writing a research paper and it involves a lot of statistics and facts taken from my 30 pages of notes on over 50 sources. I have citations (in the form of numbered endnotes) after just about every sentence. I feel like I'm not adding enough of my own input, however there isn't much input to give...its a research paper, and my analytical stuff will be mostly towards the end... Is this typical?

Too many citations in a research paper?
Yes it is . . . If you can, try to paraphrase some facts in your own words - it's kind of putting your own input - your own understanding of the fact

And try to limit your sources, only pick the BEST source for one point or whatever . . . it isn't necessary to have 5 examples for one point . . . 2 good stat/fact is good enough

P.S. - I think you need to comment on your stats / facts

Can you publish a research paper outside a university?

I want to go to grad school in the next few years. I've been out of undergrad for two. To help support my grad school application I feel I need more experiences. Conducting and getting my own paper published would be a great thing I suspect, but is it possible to do without currently being associated with an academic institution?

Can you publish a research paper outside a university?
Sure, it's possible, if you're doing something brilliant and breakthrough, but it's highly unlikely. Anything you submit to a professional academic journal is reviewed by other professionals (Ph.D.-holders) in the field. If they come across a paper or abstract by some random kid they've never heard of, they're going to pass it over real quick. If you're enrolled in a master's degree program, however, it's a different ballgame: you have connections and advice through your professors, and, of course, the power of the institutional name behind your own.

My advice to you is to read read read everything in your area of specialization you can get your hands on. Join some scholarly organizations (associations, societies) if you can (though some of these require that you're a student). Do some volunteer work. After you write the personal statement you'll be required to enclose with your grad school application, ask friends and old teachers to critique it. Then revise. If you make a good impression with the personal-statement essay and admissions thinks you're sharp and fit for the academic world, nothing else will matter.

Do you think a research paper on the apocalypse would be a good topic? If not, any suggestions?

I need to read a nonfiction book that could coincide with this paper also.

Do you think a research paper on the apocalypse would be a good topic? If not, any suggestions?
It COULD be a good topic, if you were, say, comparing fictional apocalypse novels/literature, etc. It really depends on how you go at it. Most of the nonfiction books about apocalypse are usually skewed one way or another, and it would be difficult to find an inpartial nonfiction book on this topic.
Reply:yea i think that would be a very interesting read! i cant help you as far as books go though.
Reply:There are too many books, but none agree...the topic is too wide. Perhaps you could do it on something specific like imagery in the apocalypse...
Reply:Not really because nonfiction means true and there are not any true accounts of the apocalypse. You could do something on why people believe in a possible apocalypse. Or you could look at a big natural disaster and see how close that is to accounts of the apocalypse. I am sure there is a bunch of good stuff about hurricanes or volcanoes and that would be nonfictional accounts.
Reply:it would be hard to find the material backing up your claims that werent pure speculation, a good reseaerch paper should be based on cold hard facts, it would make a good paper but not a good research paper
Reply:Interesting topic, but a difficult one, The Apocalypse in one of the most interpreted (and often misused) text in history. There are plenty of books on the subject, but most of them are complete B.S., pardon my French.

If I were to do this, I would probably want to stress the historical aspect: How the Apocalypse came to be seen through different periods, and what different people made of it. It's safer that way - you'll avoid trying to entangle the bizarre "prophecies" the book have inspired that way.
Reply:well.... no, I don't think it's a good topic. Too subjective and opinionated. The research would be very difficult. Try maybe nuclear war or something like that.... more scientific, which is better for a research paper. Good luck!
Reply:"GOOD OMENS" by Terry Pratchett %26amp; Neil Gaiman

"THIEF OF TIME" and "SOURCERY" are two Pratchett discworld books that touch upon the Apocalypse, "Teatime of the gods" , the ice giants %26amp; not forgetting horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Reply:it is a good topic.

What is a good and interesting topic for a ten page research paper for a high school american history class?

I have to write a ten page research papaer about any topic in US history, a US Unsolved mystery, about someone, or pretty much anything else, but i do not know what to write about becasue there are so many things to choose from. help please!

What is a good and interesting topic for a ten page research paper for a high school american history class?
See, I was right. Whatever topic you choose, remember to add specific details! Make an outline. First page for introduction, last page to restate and summarize. If you use four major points ( two pages each) you're finished. Since there is so much "history" you will need to narrow the subject. I think you will have a strong paper if you narrow the topic and add plenty of supporting information. Just choose any topic that you can find information and chances are you will learn to appreciate the subject after investing your time and effort.
Reply:Ignore all these people who are telling you to write critically about US history (especially Micheal B-he doesn't understand that at that point in US history America did not try to get involved in other countries business, it's called the "good neighbor policy" and FDR was trying to keep the US out of war and not send millions of US boys to die). There's a time and place for that but it's too hard for a high school research paper because it turns into an argumentative, don't make more work for yourself.

The American Revolution is interesting, especially the patriot groups in New England/Boston area. There's a good book called "The Midnight Ride" about this, it centers around the story of Paul Rivere.
Reply:Write about how FDR knew of the conditions in Europe during the Holocaust and did nothing (or at least very little) to help them.
Reply:the great depression. there are a lot of people who lived through it that you can interview and use as sources.
Reply:If you like music, do a paper on how jazz started - it is uniquely American - then it became big band and swing and then branched off into rockabilly and then... it covers lots of time so you can literally do a page a decade, and several styles so mentioning concurrent events, music styles, artists, impact, pubilc reception of the music, etc. and with 5 styles you go 2 pages each and bang - 10 pages flies by.

Reply:How about how the US government has screwed over native Americans from the beginning to this very day.

There's a book that's titled something like "A hundred years of betrayal" or something.
Reply:You should write about the US in WWII, like about Pearl harbor and stuff. I'm sure you could write a lot about that.
Reply:How about the 1948 presidential election. It is a pretty interesting story. Look up Hubert Humphrey's speech at the democratic convention. It is short -- but incredibly moving. The consequesces are that the party decided to put civil rights on the party platform. This upset Southern democrats, who walked out of the convention %26amp; started the Diciecrat party -- putting up their own canddate.

Because of the rebellion in the South, it looked like Republicans would take the White House -- this led to the famous picture of Truman holding up a newspaper that falsely declared Dewey the winner.

It was an interesting election.

How Do I Start To Write A Research Paper??

Well, im writing a research paper on Galileo Galeilei and his contributions to the modern world including the views of the catholic church and the heliocentric universe versus the geocentric universe, its due friday and all i have done are my souce citations. HELP!

How Do I Start To Write A Research Paper??
You have plenty of time, Imagine this-- From right now I'm going to write a 4-6 page essay from scratch (All I have with me are sources) and its due tommorow. I still have enough time so you have PLENTY of time.

Okay good you have your source citations now you need to turn it into an essay

1) Intro- Explain what your going to talk about.

2) Talk about something

3) Talk about something else

4) Same

5) Conclusion Wrap it up (re-word the intro to conclue the whole thing)
Reply:have you done an outline? organizing your info and notecards help to get started.

then for your intro, start with a broad topic, like science or whatever, and narrow down to galileo and his contributions, and your thesis.

sorry if you meant more specific stuff, but i know nothing about galileo
Reply:I'd start by taking a stance on the topic, like giving your opinion saying that the catholic church was just protecting it's interests or that Galileo was totally mistreated. THEN you can organize your sources and such to work for your argument. You have to remember to add some opposing viewpoints in your essay and then refute them to make your paper better. Good luck.

Research paper of 25 000 words, does that include citation or not?

My paper is 292 words over without the citation. Is that excessive

Also, does the word limit include or exclude citations?

Research paper of 25 000 words, does that include citation or not?
Your essay word count excludes citations, bibliography and references.

The rule of thumb for essays and dissertations is that they can be under or over the word count by ten percent. That means you could go over your word count by 2500 words or under by that amount.

Because the ten percent is so much (2500 words) you should check this out with your supervising professor.

I don't think being over by 292 words is excessive.
Reply:Word limits usually exclude citations, otherwise that would be a great way to pad a paper! 292 over is not that excessive, although you may want to re-read your paper to make sure you haven't rambled in any places, that your paragraphs flow smoothly from one to the next, that your paper doesn't jump around from topic to topic, etc. It might be better to make it tighter, I know a lot of professors (especially English profs) appreciate that.
Reply:Usually the limit excludes citations..but check wid ur prof/teacher just to make sure
Reply:That's for your professor to know, not us. You have to ask them.
