What is the point in doing a research paper in high school?

I'm trying to motivate myself so I actually get something done with this, so can anyone explaint to me why I need to learn to do a reasaerch paper?

What is the point in doing a research paper in high school?
because it makes you think about an another point of view. Do not just take it as a writing paper. In a research paper, you view both sides and support your point of view. It makes you think critically and helps your brain to expand in knowledge.

Do not take this assignment lightly. If you do it from your heart, you will only gain positive things out of it. Plus, it will help you in college. Many classes besides English have research paper assignments such as Anthrapology, History, Speech, etc.
Reply:There are lots of reasons. For one thing, it helps further your writing skills. It also teaches you how to, well, research. In a world of limitless information, it's good to know how to sort through what's available and make decisions on what's worthy or pertinent to you. It also strengthens your organizational skills. And the last thing I can think of is that it teaches discipline. I just hope that your teacher requires you to cite actual books and periodicals instead of doing all internet-based research. Websites don't always have reliable info because putting it up doesn't require any fact checking or editing.
Reply:You need to learn to do a research paper so that we all don't have to see you behind the counter at a McDonald's in another 6 years.
