Reply:Have you seen movie? It may help. Library or Bklock Buster should have it. ITS a classic of how times have changed. It is seen mosty through the little girls eyes as she observes her father with different people and on his small town lawyer job. I dont remember why she doesnt have a Mom but she has a housekeeper black lady with girl her age. She observes her Dad being kind to people that need his service and can only pay with garden goods. She learns valuable lessons watching him, and does not realize it. Her Dad realizes it when she befriends the adult retarded man who is kept hidden next door. He actually had been watching and protecting her from a mean drunk man following her in woods home from a halloween party, who was after revenge on her Dad. But she does not know that. Then he gets a big court case that brings out whole town defending a simple black man who was acused of rape. He prooves his innacent, the town people are amazed and some disbelieve a black could not be guilty. his daighter is up stairs in the black section, she had sneaked in when told to stay home, This is in days white and blacks sat different areas in court and I believe it was a all male jury. Another scene is about a gun. A rabid dog comes up street, he gets his gun and puts it down, she is shocked as he has always told her guns are very bad and I dont think she even knew they had a gun. Ive read book and seen movie several times. Ive wondered why they never did a part 2 after she grew up. *mamatx
