im writing a research paper and my teacher wants us to define the key terms, mine being "gang". The only problem is that there is no universal definition of a gang so i wanted to say something along the line of ...most researchers use their own definition of what constitutes a gang but among the two more well-known definitions are .....[put long quote here] and [put long quote here].........................is it okay to do that in the introduction paragraph of a research paper?
Are you allowed to put a long quote in the intro of a research paper?
it isn't suggested that you put a quote in your first paragraph. but if you can try to paraphase the quote.
Reply:I would not put a long quote in the introduction. Save the definition for the body.
Reply:Quotes aren't the best way to go. Say: Since there isn't a book definition of "gang" I would like to give my own opinion of what I think The word means.
