Can anyone help with a thesis statement for a research paper?

I'm doing my Senior year research paper and I'm having a little trouble with my thesis statement.





My topic is British Poets Laureate (aka poets chosen as favorites by the reigning monarch)





I wanted to just discuss the history and poetry of each, but I can't come up with a comprehensive and cohesive thesis statement.





I could use all the help I can get.
