Good thesis statement help for research paper on women's movement?

Hi, I'm doing a research paper on the women's movement and how hard it was for women to gain equal rights. I'm stuck for a good thesis statement. Any ideas/help?

Good thesis statement help for research paper on women's movement?
I'd compare/contrast women's rights (esp voting) to black rights.

For instance, when both the black vote and woman vote were on the table for discussion, many suffrage groups stepped down in support of black rights, while others thought it unfair that blacks got the vote before they did.

Lots of research points and an easy compare/contrast paper.

Something like... "In the United States, both women and blacks have endured limitations on their rights based on discrimination"

(it's rough, but you get the jist)

It doesn't sound like you have to make an argument, per say, so I'd just compare the two, also look at influential leaders and what they had to say about one another, for instance Elizabeth Cady Stanton or Susan B Anthony %26amp; Fredrick Douglass.

Like I said, compare and contrast, easy 'A'.

EDIT: ooh, also, some suffrage groups deliberately refused to support black rights so that they could gain the support of southern women who were inherently racist against blacks gaining voting rights, while others supported them fervently to gain the support of northern abolitionist women.
Reply:I just did a paper on the history of the women's movement last semester. If you want me to e-mail as an attachment, let me know. It might give you a few good ideas.
Reply:The most misunderstood movement in the 20th century, it often alinates those it is supposed to empower.

Maybe this video will give you some ideas.
Reply:Susan B. Anthony : Not just an unsuccessful coin.
Reply:Contrast feminists who believe that looking beautiful is the key to feeling empowered, with feminists who think that this 'empowerment' is all part of patriarichal culture. Women feel empowered because they are beautiful because of this culture.. it is not supposed to be this way.. women are not supposed to feel 'free' because they are sexier.
Reply:Do research on Nellie McClung and her league from the turn of the century in the early 1900's you'll be sure to get an excellent report because they are the true feminists that stood up for what was important as opposed to the catty broads you see now a days who have labelled themselves feminists.
Reply:Hm. Rates of women getting advanced degrees now vs previous years?
Reply:haha are you attending pierce college too? i have the same assignment and was looking for some help over yahoo answers...if you are going to pierce, who's your teacher?
Reply:Are you sure it was so hard for them to gain equal rights?

I mean, take the right to vote for instance. Men in the US got the right to vote in America around 1800. Now, this was after 1000 years of fighting and small gains here and there. About 4500 men died in that war with thousands more wounded. Since then around 500,000 men died to protect the right.

The women's suffrage movement lasted about 72 years before the men voted to hand them equal rights.

Young men have also been drafted against their will and sent to die without having the right to vote. it was changed from 21 to 18 in the 1960's.

So, to me, comparitively it wasn't all that hard for women to gain the rights they have today.
